London 2018 Round Up

Every year we are blown away by the talent and calibre of the performances in The Coffee Music Project. London 2018 has been no exception. From deliberation and narrowing down of over 100 artist submissions to the preliminary rounds, semi-finals and finals, the Coffee Music Project London 2018 proved our most challenging year to judge yet.

Judged by an esteemed panel of 10 industry professionals, the finalists performed for the final time their two original songs, along with their London Themed song that was written for the competition. The night was opened and closed by The Coffee Music Project 2017 winners Ruby Confue (London 2017) and Bandits on the Run (New York 2017), setting the winning standard for the judges and audience. Finalists performed in the running order; Fugitive Orchestra, Mairead Furlong, James Riley, Selin, Daisy Chute, Kingsgate, Hollie Rogers, Bobbie Harvey, Georgia Meek and Brunette.

The audience cast their vote preparing for a tiebreaker, while the judges deliberated. The judge’s decision was unanimous, and the winner of The Coffee Music Project London 2018 was announced by the CEO, Jeffrey Young.

The Winner of London 2018 is Daisy Chute

Daisy Chute stole the show with her memorable London song London’s On Fire, referring to the challenges of living in the city - “we are always building it up and knocking it down...we’re always trying to get bigger with it [London]”. Using fire as a metaphor for these challenges, she also pays tribute to the Grenfell Tower fire (2017). The Folk/Americana artist admitted in an interview with Ellehcor to finishing her winning song the day before her semi-final performance and continually making slight lyrical changes, saying “you’re always editing, especially with a new song”.

“I’d love to go to New York…I’d love to be able to invest that money into my album”

Now officially crowned the winner of The Coffee Music Project London 2018, Daisy Chute will be recording her winning song, and heading to New York City in October for The Coffee Music Project New York, and the New York Coffee Festival.
